Description
IFRS 16: Identifying, Measuring and Remeasuring Lease Contracts
Resolve the practical difficulties of IFRS 16 on lease term, rent indexation and lease renegotiations
- 1 day — 7 h
- In-person or virtual
- Expert
- Up to 6 participants
IFRS 16 brought leases onto the balance sheet, but the real difficulty has shifted to ongoing monitoring. The lease term depends on renewal options assessed by management, indexed rents move every year, and each renegotiation requires a decision between remeasurement and modification. Tracking spreadsheets age poorly and discrepancies build up.
This one-day programme is designed for practitioners who already apply the standard. The seven hours cover the identification of a lease contract, the initial measurement of the right-of-use asset and the lease liability, then the subsequent events that trigger recalculation: indexation, exercise of an option, sale and leaseback, and early exit.
Learning objectives
- Determine whether a contract contains a lease within the meaning of IFRS 16
- Set the lease term and substantiate the assessment of options
- Measure the right-of-use asset and the lease liability at commencement date
- Select and justify the discount rate applied
- Handle remeasurements arising from indexation and changes in assumptions
- Account for lease modifications and early terminations
