Description

Intermediate Word: structuring, reviewing and enriching business documents

Regain control of long documents through styles, outline view and track changes

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

As soon as a document runs beyond a few pages, manual formatting becomes unmanageable: headings reformatted one by one, a table of contents retyped for every version, numbering that breaks, and review cycles by email with no record of what changed. More time is spent tidying up the layout than working on the content.

Over two days, participants move to a structured document approach: styles and outline view, automatic table of contents, sections and differentiated page layout, reusable templates, track changes and mail merge. Participants work on documents drawn from their own day-to-day activity.

Learning objectives

  • Structure a long document using styles and outline view
  • Generate and update an automatic table of contents
  • Manage sections to differentiate page layout
  • Create a template that can be reused across the department
  • Review a document collaboratively using track changes
  • Run a mail merge from a recipient list

What makes this programme different

A long document brought by a participant is restructured live, from outline through to table of contents
The template created matches the documents actually produced by the department
The multi-reviewer approval cycle is replayed with comments and version comparison
