Description

IT Literacy: Understanding the Information System and Collaborating Better

Understand what IT teams actually do and engage with them without being lost in jargon

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Working with the information systems function means understanding what is being discussed: server, database, interface, backup, test environment. Without these reference points, exchanges are reduced to poorly formulated requests and misunderstood lead times, and projects move forward on misunderstandings that only surface at acceptance testing.

Two days to build usable IT literacy: identify the components of an information system, understand how an application is built and hosted, position the roles of technical teams and formulate a request that can actually be processed. No prior technical knowledge is required.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the hardware and software components of an information system
  • Explain how an application and its database operate
  • Position the roles of the various IT professions
  • Formulate a change request that a technical team can act upon
  • Recognise security and backup issues within day-to-day activity

What makes this programme different

Technical vocabulary is decoded in session from the actual messages participants receive
A poorly formulated change request is rewritten until it becomes workable
The journey of a data item is traced from entry through to reporting
