Description
Junior Buyer: Defining Requirements, Running Tenders and Contracting
Step into your first buying role and manage a category portfolio from tender to supplier follow-up
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
A new buyer usually inherits a portfolio made up of rolled-over contracts with incumbent suppliers and a stream of urgent requests. Results are expected quickly, while the role itself has to be learned: market analysis, contract fundamentals and working with internal stakeholders who have often already made their choice.
Two days to build the foundations of the role: segmenting a portfolio, analysing a supplier market, running a structured tender and measuring savings in a way that stands up to scrutiny. Unlike the module designed for non-buyers, this programme starts from the portfolio and works on the key indicators of the procurement function.
Learning objectives
- Segment a procurement portfolio by value at stake and risk
- Analyse a supplier market and its balance of power
- Run a tender from sourcing through to award
- Draft the standard contractual documents used in purchasing
- Calculate and substantiate procurement savings for management control
