Description

Learning Effectively: Understanding Memory, Organising and Embedding What You Learn

Apply what is known about how memory works in order to learn faster and retain more

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Many professionals still learn the way they did at school: re-reading, highlighting and cramming the night before a deadline. These habits create a feeling of mastery without producing lasting memory. In continuing professional development, content arrives faster than it can be absorbed and the available time is fragmented.

This one-day programme sets out the mechanisms of attention and memory, then the working methods that follow from them. Each technique is applied immediately to professional content brought by the participant.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the role of attention and memory in learning
  • Identify revision methods that create an illusion of mastery
  • Apply active recall and spaced repetition techniques
  • Organise study sessions around real professional constraints
  • Assess progress and adjust the method accordingly

What makes this programme different

Every technique is tested immediately on content brought by the participant
Common revision methods are compared through an experiment run live in the session
The learning plan produced reflects the time genuinely available
