Description
Team Management: Organising Work, Delegating and Conducting Employee Discussions
Make the shift from technical expert to day-to-day leader of a team
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
People are often promoted into management because they were strong technical performers. Almost overnight, they must distribute workload, arbitrate between priorities, say no, address the underperformance of a well-liked colleague and report on work they no longer carry out themselves. Many compensate by taking the files back on their own desk and exhaust themselves in the process.
Two days to establish the core practices of the role: clarifying your remit and ground rules, organising activity, delegating in a meaningful way and conducting the discussions that shape the working relationship. Role-play exercises are built on the real situations brought by participants.
Learning objectives
- Define your role as a manager and the operating rules of your team
- Distribute activity and set objectives that can be verified
- Delegate an assignment with the appropriate level of autonomy
- Conduct a feedback discussion and a performance correction discussion
- Respond to tension or disagreement within the team
